Company Overview
Modern Rocks is a design and creative direction studio helping factories and vendors develop buyer-ready product assortments for the U.S. retail market.
Founded by Heather Royer, Modern Rocks has been partnering with clients for 12+ years. Heather brings deep experience across the retailer, vendor, and factory sides of the business including 8+ years working inside Target headquarters before moving to the vendor and factory side, where she has continued developing product and building business for major U.S. retailers including Target, Walmart, Kohl’s, and others.
We help factory teams take broad buyer direction, trend inspiration, or an open business opportunity and turn it into focused, retailer-specific collections. From trend and market intelligence through concept, CAD development, and assortment direction, the goal is always the same: develop the right product for the right retailer and give the buyer a reason to pick it.
Our expertise is in U.S. big-box retail, with particularly deep knowledge of Target and its brands, customer, and processes, along with extensive experience developing for Walmart, Kohl’s, and other major retailers. Experience spans soft home décor, seasonal collections, accessories, cold weather accessories, sweaters and knits, apparel, gifting, and other consumer product categories.
Modern Rocks works with a flexible team of experienced designers and creative specialists, led by Heather. Team members bring different areas of expertise across product, print/pattern, graphics, trend, and other creative disciplines. This allows us to match the right expertise to each project and adjust the level of support based on the category, scope, and workload. Clients get the creative resources they need when they need them, without the commitment or overhead of maintaining a larger full-time design team.
Ways to Work Together
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Modern Rocks can plug into your existing team for a focused project or provide ongoing creative support across a larger program.
Project-Based
Have a specific retailer opportunity, buyer request, seasonal program, or presentation coming up? We can build a defined scope around exactly what your team needs.
Ongoing Design Support
For factories and vendors that need additional design resources or U.S. retail expertise, Modern Rocks can provide ongoing support across multiple projects or development cycles.
Build the Right Team
For larger projects, Heather brings together designers and creative specialists based on the category and scope giving you access to the right expertise without having to build a larger internal design team.
